Located on the western side of Paphos town, Peyia is a completely self-sufficient municipality boasting all necessary amenities. It covers a total area of 45520000 Square Meters and gained its independence from Paphos Town in 1994 making it a separate municipality. Historically, Akamantida as it was previously known has been used and occupied since the Copper Age (4000 B.C) when sailors landed here and made a colony which later expanded, creating the fishing port in Agios Georgios.
